Wipebook MathReps Workbooks boost math skills
"I am a 4th grade teacher in Akron, Ohio. I am so fortunate to be able to use Wipebook MathReps Workbooks in my classroom. Math is such a fun subject to teach especially when you have amazing tools to use".
Effective Classroom Tool
I enjoy using non-permanent surfaces to review content, especially whiteboards for daily practice and quick checks for understanding. The reusable MathReps Workbooks have been particularly effective for practicing math standards. With Wipebooks, students can easily fix their answers. They don’t have to worry about making mistakes. This lets them try problems again if they are having trouble. Once they complete a MathReps, they simply wipe the surface clean and prepare for the next one.
Using MathReps daily has made the skills we practice easier for students, helping them become faster and more efficient with each repetition. It becomes part of their warm-up routine, and the variety of four different MathReps in the Wipebook Workbook allows us to continue practicing a standard even after moving on to other tasks. This is especially helpful when preparing for state testing.
By having students complete a different MathReps each day for the past several weeks, I've noticed their growing confidence as they improve day by day. Thanks to consistent practice, most of my students have mastered the skills we focus on. The immediate feedback I can provide as I circulate the room further enhances their learning experience.
Building math fluency in one place
This tool is easy to use. One benefit is that students can view and work with different representations of a concept simultaneously. Instead of practicing skills in isolation, they can begin to make connections and see the bigger picture.
Before using MathReps, I would introduce multiplication one concept at a time—starting with repeated addition and then moving to equal groupings. However, not all of these ideas were presented together on the same page.
Since incorporating MathReps, I’ve seen tremendous growth in their understanding. Now, it's common for students to complete three multiplication problems using all the different representations in under 10 minutes. They simply wipe their boards clean and move on to the next set.
Sharing with others is easy
MathReps helps students be more confident sharing their work in the classroom. Whether they are presenting under the document camera or talking with a partner, they take pride in showing their work. Having students share multiple representations with their peers is far more impactful than a teacher demonstrating the concepts. When students develop their strategies, they take ownership of their learning, which deepens their understanding and engagement.
