Hey: help reduce CO2 by 35,000 tons

So, did you know that the average U.S. worker faces a twenty mile commute to work every single day or roughly 30 minutes.

And did you also know that about 90% of commuters  drive to work INSTEAD of taking public transportation? THIS BLOWS my mind....

NOT COOL AND IT KINDA GETS WORSE

To TOP IT OFF the latest American Community Survey data for 2016 collected by the Census tells us that 76.3 percent of US commuters drive to work alone  -- which is approximately 115 million one-person vehicles on the road. WHY????

THE RESULT

What you end up with is a lot of wasted money, time, energy, resources, and YES uber frustrated employes.... That's right: commuting over time affects employee performance and engagement in the workplace including a negative impact on employee health and productivity.

THE MATH IS SIMPLE

Given the above  switching to a telecommuting/work-from-home-program could cut each person's work-related carbon footprint substantially RIGHT?

Obviously, not all work environments are conducive to telecommuting five days a week.

Nonetheless, there are plenty of jobs in engineering, programming, and IT that require their employees to spend substantial time in front of a computer or laptop.

20% INCREASE IN PRODUCTIVITY

IN FACT, a study carried out by the Chinese travel website Ctrip found that self-motivated remote employees increased their productivity by the equivalent of an extra working day each week

That's pretty crazy if you think about it.

THE BENEFITS OF REMOTE WORKFORCES

The effects of working remotely are highly beneficial:

  • Lower fuel and energy consumption;
  • Lower employee/employer emissions;
  • Reduced strain on infrastructure and transportation systems;
  • Increased employee engagement and production.

CASE STUDY: THE DELL STUDY

So let's see what the big boys are doing with this work at home stuff...

Dell launched a 2015 study of its workforce looking at how remote work positively affects a company's sustainability efforts.

The average Dell U.S. employee works remotely about 10 times per month.

By allowing this work-at-home flexibility, Dell saves 75 gallons of gas per person.

And collectively, through remote work Dell employees save over $1,000,000 in fuel costs and avoid over 35,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.

IN SUM

Save money. Save the planet. AND implement a remote work program .

Just sayin.'
