How Flipcharts are Creating High Impact Teaching Strategies

"Wipebook Flipchart have become an invaluable piece of professional development planning and execution in my role as a Numeracy Facilitator"

Experiencing rich tasks, providing opportunities to brainstorm and share, and facilitating guided strategies and processes make up a large portion of the workshops I lead for math educators. When teachers come together to learn, they appreciate hands-on and relevant information they can take back to their classrooms. Wipebook is a company that has become an invaluable piece of professional development planning and execution in my role as a Numeracy Facilitator. Posting the reusable Wipebook Flipchart around our learning spaces allows us to brainstorm ideas and then easily share our thinking with our colleagues. Having the opportunity to make our thinking visible is one of the key pieces in our shared time together.

Group discussions around the Flipchart paper

In a recent workshop, there were ten Wipebook sheets posted around the room. Through VNPS teachers were able to co-create an understanding of high-impact teaching strategies. Our gallery walk of flipcharts allowed for genuine conversation to occur as the information was so clearly visible. During another day of learning, the Wipebook Flipcharts on the wall allowed participants to clearly see how many ways we could describe visual patterns, and then determine how to introduce this topic with their students.

Problems solved on Flipcharts

Whether it is an introductory activity or a rich mathematics task for teachers to experience, the visibility of posted Wipebook Flipcharts really does spark great conversation, reflection, and learning.

Solving problems and brainstorming ideas together

Being able to reuse, post, move, and then remove the Flipchart sheets allows for so much flexibility in planning these learning opportunities. I tend to travel with my Wipebook Flipcharts, markers, and painters’ tape so that I am always ready to create more whiteboard space, no matter the room we are working in. My own classroom has whiteboards and Wipebooks, and when I work with teachers, the aim is to recreate that open and visible learning environment.

In my role, the Wipebook Flipcharts are invaluable as a tangible item in creating effective professional development opportunities.
